Welcome to the Quebec Chapter of HMOTF! Weekly activities are hosted in the Montréal area, Quebec City, and Rimouski, offering veterans and first responders opportunities to connect, learn, and experience the therapeutic benefits of fishing. Thanks to our loyal donors and partners, we also organize outings beyond our regular Wednesday morning workshops (held from October to May). These outings provide participants with meaningful opportunities to socialize, relax, and experience the camaraderie of our community.

We’ve seen great satisfaction and heartfelt gratitude from those who have joined us, and we’re always excited to welcome new participants. If you’re a veteran or first responder from Québec and would like to get involved, please use our contact form so we can arrange an introduction and an outing for you!

Meet Richard

My name is Richard Blanchet and I am a retired Warrant Officer who served 39 years in the Canadian Armed Forces. During my service, I completed several missions with the UN in places such as Egypt, Cyprus, Yugoslavia (2) and Haiti. I also had the opportunity to serve for four years in Germany during the fall of the Berlin Wall.
My father taught me to fish at a young age. I often accompanied him to the Rivière du Nord, where he used to fish. This river is located in my hometown of Montmagny, Quebec. I also fished for striped bass in the majestic St. Lawrence River before this species was nearly extinct.
When I retired, I had the chance to rediscover the pleasure of fishing, an activity that I rarely got to do during my service. In 2012, I discovered fly fishing thanks to my long-time friend, Gervais Jeffrey (National Director of HMOTF), who invited me to participate in a fly tying course followed by a fly casting clinic. Since then, I have been tying my own flies and regularly go on fly fishing trips during the summer. In 2015, I became the Provincial Director of the Quebec Chapter of HMOTF. Now I am Deputy director.
