Matt Martin, Smooth River Guiding: Smallmouth Bass

This past July, we were fortunate enough to be joined by Matt Martin recently for an online presentation where he shared some of his favourite patterns and techniques for approaching smallmouth bass in a variety of environments. A few days later, some local HMOTF members also had the privilege of spending a day out on the water with Matt to put what they learned to practice! Matt was an incredible teacher to our participants of varying skill levels. No question is ever a bad question with Matt, and we always learn something from his answers.

Matt Martin is owner and operator at Smooth River Guiding based in Southern Ontario. He guides for trout, steelhead, salmon, bass, gar, pike, musky, carp, and almost everything else you could think of! Matt is a well-seasoned angler and an engaging teacher. For those who were unable to make the tying presentation, we recorded it for you below. Matt’s tips for smallies will prove useful wherever you’re targeting them! For our Southern Ontario HMOTF participants, keep an eye out! We’ll be sure to spend some more time with Matt again and learn more from his extensive experiences with the diverse fisheries of Ontario.
